What’s the difference between the Grypmat and the Grypmat Pro?
The Grypmat Pros are the original Grypmats. Designed for professional mechanics, they will hold up to abuse day in and day out. They are designed to hold all of your tools and bolts and they will stand up to all the major chemicals you can throw at them. In short, the Grypmat Pros are designed for the professional, 6-days-a-week mechanic.
The Green Grypmats were designed based on feedback we received from the DIY and automotive community. They are a few inches smaller than their Pro counterparts and have been redesigned to help you on your weekend projects. The small can now fit a few of your hand tools and your smaller pieces, making it the perfect companion for any small job you need to tackle. The medium has also been remodeled so that the small now fits snugly inside the large pocket of the medium. The corner pockets were also designed to hold a standard 12-ounce can, helping fight off “dehydration” while you are out in your garage.
Which size should I get?
Every Grypmat brings its own value to your workflow. First, it helps to assess your typical jobs and what they entail.
If you intend on using your Grypmat 5, 6, or even 7 days a week for all sorts of jobs, we definitely would recommend the Grypmat Pros. Designed to be as tough as you are, the Grypmat Pros will be by your side day in and day out ready to help you tackle every task. If you are more of the tinkerer, DIYer, or weekend mechanic, the Green Grypmats may be your best bet. Designed with you in mind, they will hold everything you need for your smaller, one-off jobs.
Now that you have that sorted out, the next question is, “which size should I get?”
- Do you typically just need a hand tool and a few fasteners? The Small Green Grypmat sounds like your best option.
- Do you work with a ton of small tedious hardware pieces? The Small is for you.
- Are you typically working with a hand tool and some hardware? A Medium will suit you perfectly.
- Working on big jobs with multiple tools and hardware and you can’t afford to lose any of it? Go with the Large or perhaps the Trio pack of all three.
What are these things made of?
Industrial grade silicone polymer with some secret ingredients in there to make it extra grypy. The Grypmats are heavy duty. Their unique formula makes them tough as can be.
How long will these Grypmats last me?
A lifetime if you let them. These mats are just as tough as you are. We are so confident in their toughness that we back it up with a lifetime warranty. Unless you’re cutting into them or soaking them in an acid bath you’ll have these things forever.
Are they resistant to chemicals?
For the Grypmat Pro- From MEK, Skydrol, JP8, Hydraulic Fluid, Bleach, Acetone, Xylene and more... you name it, we’ve probably had the team test it.
For the Grypmats-the team has tested it against gasoline, WD-40, engine oil, and brake cleaner.
Are they resistant to heat and cold?
You bet! We have rated all our products up and -65°F (-54ºC). All of the products in our Grypmat Pro line are rated up to 500ºF (260ºC), and all those in the Grypmat line are rated up to 356ºF (180ºC).
What colors do you offer?
The Grypmat Pros come in Grypmat Orange (aka safety orange) and the Grypmats come in Neon Green. The bright colored mats make visibility of your valuable tools and hardware the focus.
I lost my Grypmat, what do I do now?
Woah. It’s neon, come on! Unfortunately, our warranty does not cover misplaced Grypmats so your best bet is to order a new one.
Where are Grypmats made?
Grypmats are produced offshore and warehoused locally in Columbus, Ohio.
Are there magnets in them?
Nope, no magnets! Grypmats keep your tools in place on almost any surface with only a combination of friction and suction.
Usage Related Questions
I received my Grypmat and it won’t stick to anything, what do I do?
Don't worry, this is perfectly normal for Grypmats just out of the box.
Chances are your Grypmat has collected a thin layer of dust on the bottom from sitting in a box on it’s journey to your doorstep. All you have to do is take a clean rag with some soap and water and wipe it down. You can towel dry it or let it air dry, either way, once it is dry, you'll be good to go.
In fact, it's good practice to give your Grypmats a quick wipe down every time you go to use them.
How do I clean my Grypmat?
Soap and water will work great for most of your messes. If there are some pesky oils left over, feel free to use a little brake cleaner, or something similar, to get them off.
